Great book, not just for kids but for adults as well. The "why's" behind the thought processes and actions that cause anxiety are clearly written and backed by solid research. The steps for dealing with anxiety are clear, progressive and actionable. I found the book interesting and easy to read. There is a lot of information but the areas that are familiar were easy to identify. I have been using some of the practices in the book with my family and it has led to some interesting and eye opening conversations.

This book does such a great job of explaining what anxiety is, the range of ways it can show up in kids (and/or adults) and how you can get it under control. Dr. Walker's practice of utilizing CBT and exposure therapy with patients is spot on and I have witnessed it work firsthand. I highly recommend this book as a guide to help you and/or your child learn how to identify, understand and manage anxiety. The guidance laid out is priceless and will be beneficial to anyone suffering from anxiety.

This book is short, readable, based on proven research, and contains all sorts of easy-to-use checklists. I was surprised to learn how much of what I was doing as a parent was exacerbating (and not helping) our son's anxiety. The CBT approach is very practical and it works. We have a much happier child - and much happier, more relaxed family. Thank you for writing this book.

I bought this book to replace the 2006 edition I used on my first transit of the canal. There was a significant amount of updating between the two editions. All the photos and maps are now in color, information about the new canal and Panama Canal Railway passenger service has been added, along with revised details on the cruise lines that serve Panama. I have several books on the building and history of the canal, but this was the only book I needed to prepare for and take on my Panama cruise. The book tells you what to take, what to expect, what to look for and what to avoid. I especially liked the descriptions of the various ports ships visit during a Panama Canal cruise and recommendations for things to do while ashore.

Shopped every book about the Panama Canal before going on a cruise through the Canal. This is the best overall, portable book around. Noticed the cruise line also featured it. History of the Canal is excellent. Descriptions of Central America countries are brief--but that's not the topic of the book. Get it for the Canal.

Very disappointing. This book would be ideal for someone who booked a Panama canal cruise... if they have done no research, have never seen a ship before, and don’t know how to use Google. Wikipedia had more information.Not informative enough to be a travel guide, but not specific enough to be a book about the Panama Canal.If I had to guess, I’d say this is written by a stay-at-home mom turned amature travel agent, so she can put the link in her blog.Skip it.

Wow! This is a GREAT book for facts, figures, and things to watch for when planning (or undertaking) a cruise through the Panama Canal. There is SO much history included, wonderful maps, and great suggestions for shore excursions, port sightseeing, etc. The pull-out map is wonderful, and will be with us throughout our upcoming trip. A big two thumbs up on this one!

It's impossible to be a guide to everyone's specs, but this ought to be on everyone's list to check before boarding. There's plenty for first-timers as well as those who've done the crossing previously. If you do the e-reader thing (I just began that last year) it's even better - saves a little over a pound in the suitcase, too.

Very interesting. The maps are great and all the pictures add to the excitement of going on the cruise.

Bought this as a gift for my inlays who were taking a cruise. They loved it and found the information interesting and helpful.

I purchased this book for a Panama Canal cruise, which I just completed. I found the book to be of quite minimal value, with much more attention to ports that would be part of a Caribbean cruise than one that transverses the canal. The sections on the Canal and its history were informative but those on ports visited less so. I am not sure if there is a good alternative guide so this may be the best you can do.
