This was so funny! I loved every page ! It's like the Greek gods and goddess book , only a lot more funny with interviews with some of the Norse gods ! Great lines and a little look into the next Magnus chase book!

Another entertaining Rick Riordan companion book. This is set up as the handbook newly deceased heroes would be receiving upon entering Valhalla. It's tone is humorous and light-hearted, everything we would expect from a Riordan book. We're given a brief overview of Norse deities, mythical beings, and mythical creatures.This book doesn't go super in-depth with any of the topics, but I found that the information provided was just right for what you'd need to enhance your enjoyment and understanding of the Magnus Chase series.Guide to the Norse Worlds was published shortly before the second Magnus Chase book (Hammer of Thor), and I think that's an appropriate time to read it. You could probably actually read it before even starting the series - it would help you get into Norse mythology a bit before you jump into book one. I don't think there are any spoilers for book one; it is literally a brief handbook of Norse mythology, and Magnus Chase (or the events of book one) are not actually mentioned at all.Overall - this was a very handy, entertaining companion book. Not a full 5 stars only because it is rather brief, and there's not a ton of new information that couldn't be gleaned from reading the first Magnus Chase book. But enjoyable, nonetheless, and a helpful guide for those not familiar with Norse mythology prior to reading the Magnus Chase series.

I found this to be interesting, informative and fun. I really enjoyed the fact that he included a pronunciation guide at the end. Those Norse words are hard to pronounce. I recommend Magnus Chase: Hotel Valhalla Guide to the Norse Worlds.

Positive words to see daily. I love every months quote. Simple wall calendar with words you can read from across the room.

The calendar has very large words with fun and aspiring quotes..awesome way to start the year off. I really like the large boxes to write in, I am a big calendar user so this one will come in handy.

Overall the calendar looks great, is made well and has excellent quotes. However, there is a spelling error (they spelled 'should' as 'shoud') which is rather unfortunate given the large text.

Nice large calendar with space to write in. Love the slogans too, but the calendar is so much larger than my last calendar, I have to fold it back and only get to read the sayings when I change the month. A tad too large for my space, but still a very nice calendar. Just be aware, it is a very large calendar -- about 12" x 12" times two = 24" x 24"!

This is a great little inspirational calendar. I love reading and reminding myself of the quotes for each month. The pigmentation is vibrant and rich. It came quickly and was packaged appropriately. Wasn't wrinkled or damaged in transport. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because I don't love all of the quotes but that's no ones fault.

Here are my thoughts about the book:This is by far the best book on MBA Essays I have reviewed. It is motivating to read and contains nuggets of value on every page. Even the obvious points in the "what not to do" section are strongPROS+ Great self-diagnostic/reflection methodology+ Real essays and real examples+ What not-to-do section with every chapter+ Practical - it is not a bunch of tricks or gimmicks but solid value+ Numerous quotes from admissions officers+ Section on Letters of Recommendation (LOR)CONS- Essays are getting a bit dated in this edition, so awaiting the second edition- None reallyBottom line: taking into consideration that an Admissions consultant could cost $2-4K per school, this is a great guide. Of the essay books, this does rank among the best in most categories. The advice is well thought out and gives you not only samples of prose but things to consider from the school's point of view. Items like word choice and essay style are also considered in detail.As one of the other reviewers mentioned, most essays are unfortunately rediculous in length. If the essays could be infinite in length (as they are for basically only one top-25 school I can think of), these essays and the detail provided in them would be dead on. Once you begin writing however, you will realize that some of the detailed advice given and the rubrics to follow will quickly consume the 1-2 page limit and you'll need to start over and refine or completely rewrite. Use the essays for guidelines but be careful of all the prosaic fluff that the author recommends you put into your essay to create good "stories", sometimes using several double spaced pages just to set up a backstory in an essay-useless when you have only 2 pages to answer 3 subquestions!The author spends alot of time saying, "Do X" and then within the same few pages or within the book will say, "Be careful of X," constraining you into an impossible writing situation. He will also do the opposite where he will scare you into the need to write too much by saying things like, "Make sure you talk about this aspect of your career. But don't forget this. And don't forget this. Oh yeah, and don't forget..." Again, if you have the common sense to get into business school, this book should be an inspirational outline more than the be-all-end-all of essay writing. The author should take care to give more examples of shorter essays which most top 25 schools want.My advice: If you are looking to study multiple books, put this one on your list. If you are looking for one really great book, this may not be it (though I strongly advise you against using only one book.)

I found this book very helpful in my graduate school application process. I am a slightly unique grad school candidate in that I applied to both MBA and MS in Marketing programs. I am already strong writer, but whenever I begin writing I really need a lot of "inspiration" and examples to produce a coherent "story" for myself, and this book provided exactly what I needed. Being able to read a lot of sample essays really helped me generate strong personal statements. There were also a lot of tips, pointers and guidance provided as well. In the end, after using this book I was accepted to 4 out of the 5 graduate schools to which I applied, and I was offered scholarships to 2 of them. I highly recommend this book if you are going through the application process!

Clear, step-by-step advice on how to pick your strongest essay topics and how to write them in the most compelling way. As a former MBA Admissions Director, I recommend Paul's "data-mining" exercises and questions to derive your best material, and his insights are spot on in terms of what admissions are looking for. You can also find plenty of sample essays. There are also helpful chapters on recommendations and wait list strategy. The only downside is that this book is very much focused on essays (as opposed to school selection, resumes, etc). Nevertheless, great value! I bought this book for help with essays and a lot of the advice was obvious. However, it had some good examples and it did answer a few important questions I had, which definitely made the book worth any investment. I would give it 3 stars but the section on interviews was actually quite thorough. But if you're looking for an in-depth MBA essay guide, you may want to supplement this with another book and internet research.

Great book! Provided me with much-needed structure to begin my essay-writing process, and included many examples which illustrated the possibilities for me.

The book provides a decent set of guidelines for writing essays. However, the example essays are all extremely long. For example the second (Chinese applicant to Wharton ) essay is at least 1,500 words when the word limit is only 1,000. I'm not sure if you can actually use any of these examples because of this. Also the outlines, introduction, conclusion etc the author suggests will take up valuable space. Overall the book is useful second or third resource but definitely not a definitive source for MBA essay writing. I found the "How to Get into.." book to be much more useful for my purpose.What was most disappointing was that even for the longest essays the author comments never addressed the length of the essay!

I am talking about kindle version. this book is full of typos. I told amazon to revise this book but it is still same.Do not buy this book, it is worthless. Prabhat prakashan and amazon are kidding us.

Just a quick note: I recently reread this when I was reminded of the complexities of the Spanish Civil War by a magazine article. The book did what I dimly remembered it did: it showed the local, human dimension of the war rather than the history book battle of ideologies we usually see. What I hadn’t remmbered was the subtlety and complexity of the love story. I’ve always thought Hemingway’s ability to present love has been underrated by many people who prefer to focus on the unwillingness of many of his characters to talk about their feelings. It’s true, his characters generally don’t have much to say on the subject, and even their inner monologues tend to be sparse, but Hemingway still manages to express his characters’ deep, vital and nuanced feelings. I think the lack of verbiage is part a reflection of the view expressed by many of his characters that it doesn’t do to talk about significant things too much and part the simple fact that the characters themselves don’t understand what they’re feeling.Hemingway was a fabulous writer, and much of his work, though clearly rooted in his time period, still stands up to scrutiny today.

The kindle edition I read was a "knock-off" Hemingway. The text was weird and not lined up. When there was an obvious expletive in the dialogue, it actually was deleted and the word "obscenity" was placed.

The Kindle version of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” is not very good. I don’t know if that is because it is an abridged version like other reviewers claim or whether it’s just not a good story. If the Kindle version is indeed abridged, I would have expected Amazon.com to alert buyers that it was so. Basically, “For Whom the Bell Tolls” is the story of a critical mission by a band of rebels accompanied by an American sympathizer fighting for the Republic against the Fascists in Spain during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The rebels’ mission was to blow up a bridge, but the interplay among the characters leading up to the attack dominate the story.

Having begun to "read into" Hemingway a bit, one begins to realise that everything about his style, including the lack of correct grammar, (as well as being the first writer to use the contracted form in literature, as everybody knows), has to do with conveying the feeling and the atmosphere of the places he is writing about, The more you read him, the more you read him, kind of thing. Hemingway's ability to create emotion and atmosphere that "takes you there", where the action is, is surprising, to say the least. Another: "can't put it down".book.A good read! For those who don't already know Hemingway.

Be careful what you purchase. This edition is abridged and disgraceful. Papa would not be proud.

I read in amazement, knowing of Hemingway 's fame I still felt surprise at his writing ability. When I read his Paris book he would return to his wife after a long day of writing by longhand. I now understand how difficult that must have been: to constantly be thinking of and feeling the tiny details while laboriously writing each word.This story of the Spanish civil war comes to the reader with such descriptive details that one can feel the dirt on their clothes and under the fingernails, and the cold dew of the morning. After all it is the details which causes a book to be readable and believable.

JOHN DONNEIf you haven't noticed, I read a lot of Hemingway. The reason for this is that I enjoy (even more) a textbook about him that was written by a Princeton Professor, Carlos Baker. He understands Hemingway and shares that knowledge in a way that shows the artfulness of the writer. He diagrams the novels in the same way that my grade school teachers taught me to diagram sentences (noun, verb, adverb and subject, object of the preposition, adjectives and compound sentences, etc.). Using this textbook I am learning how a writer approaches a novel (as an artist would); hence the title, "HEMINGWAY, the writer as artist". It is one of my favorite books and has been for more than ten years.For Whom the Bell Tolls (FWBT) was published in 1940, but the notes for it were taken during '37, '38 '39. It speaks of the loyalist fighting against fascism in Spain. His detractors called Hemingway a 'Stalinist' or a 'Fascist' at the extremes, but he was neither. He was simply anti-fascist. He thought that fascism killed art and literature. It was just that easy for him to pick a side.His novel is broad in scope and speaks garishly of the cruel killings by both sides.He goes into great detail of an incident in which the 'loyalists' torture and kill local fascist shop owners, blowhards, idiots, city officials and priests in a way that is foreign to any experience of my sheltered life. Hemingway shocks the reader by writing the details of killing in a way that reminds us of a bull fight, or the running of the bulls at Pamplona. This chapter is hard to read. It is so cruel. I can only image what it was like with his expletives at full volume. Artistically it compares with Picasso's 'Guernica' which reminds the world of the insane bombing of that Spanish market town by NAZI fascists. (with loss of life estimated at 1,650)

I ordered this password book because it was titled "Discreet Password Book". However, the words DISCREET PASSWORD BOOK are displayed down the outside spine of the book, making it not-so-discreet. I do like the larger size, and the design is cute.

WW has finally put out a book that details the realm and denizens of the Underworld, the place where dead souls go to. It is a solid companion to WoD: Inferno, which details the realm of Hell. Both books make great campaign guides for players who are interested in journeying to places of legend and perhaps best left alone. Along with the metaphysical geography of the Underwold, this book offers useful information for how it deals with the other game lines like Mage, Vampire, Geist, Promethean, Changeling and Hunter. It also details death-gods and their respective realms, like Mictantecutli (and his realm of Mictlan), the realm of Hades and other death-realms from around the world.

Geist is redeemed with this book. For those who love the core game, this is invaluable, and for those who avoid it altogether, this is invaluable.The chapters are split into: (1) essays on mortal legends and urban myths and how they might pertain to the game, including story hooks; (2) how the underworld can be interacted with all the other game lines (vampires, Bone Shadows and Moros can finally travel the realm of death); (3) extra ceremonies, merits, and a new Key (Stygian) and Manifestation (The Pit) for sin-eaters; (4) discussion and rules for the Autocthonous Depths; and (5) discussion, rules, and write-ups for 10 different Dead Dominions, all of which are evocative and designed to please a range of tastes. New rivers of death are introduced, plus the art is fantastic. I now REALLY want another Geist book and I know I'm not going to get one.The book is a perfect blend of fluff and crunch and is highly readable. Many WoD supplements have chapters that can be a bit of a slog, but there's not a wasted word in Book of the Dead. The only trouble I can see with it is that the underworld is no longer the "undiscovered country" of the World of Darkness. Many GMs will want to immediately use everything they can stuff into a game and the setting may lose its mystery if they aren't careful.Still, the players deserve it. Do yourself a favour and buy this book.

Like most NWoD books, the quality of the printing, artwork, and fluff stories are among the best RPG books out there. The content does a good job of explaining the underworld and how to make your way through it. While it is geared mostly for Geist characters, my Mage character that focused on necromancy benefitted greatly from what the book contains.

Even if you don't own Geist this book is still very useful for both going into a new setting and staying the the area you are. It offers lots of ideas for storytellers even if you never make it down into the underworld itself. That being said it adds a lot of good things to Geist also, for me it's a must have.

Not only a great addition to the World of Darkness, but its fairly Geist centric, making it a must have addition to the Sin-Eater gameline (and likely one of the only ones we'll get).

I received the book, it was very nicely packaged and great care was taken so that the binding wouldn't be damaged and the cover wouldn't be ruined. It's in great shape and I'm very happy with this seller's service.
