Probably more of a 3.5, but I'm rounding up because it was still fun for the most part!Daughter of the Siren Queen takes place two months after the ending to the last one with Alosa and her crew finally getting the last piece of the map to the island of sirens- and a massive treasure. While Alosa takes the man who had her prisoner captive, he tells a secret that her father has kept for years. Soon Alosa and her crew are in a race with the entire pirate fleet to get to the treasure first. She'll have to learn how to control her powers while putting up with Riden, who she is might have feelings for.For the most part I did really enjoy this book! It's a swashbuckling adventure that never slows down with a badass female pirate captain and her almost all female crew on the high seas. Alosa also has some interesting powers that she can not control. That is where lies the start of my major issue in this book: she can't seem to control her powers without the help of a man. But that is probably just my personal preference on it.The romance in this book? It's downright awful. While I enjoyed them together in the first book, this time it was 98% of Alosa actually abusing Riden and being mean to him throughout while he pretty much takes it, instead of ever fighting her back. Or being the interesting pirate he could have been. He is her whipping boy to yell at when things go wrong or to throw punches while he takes whatever. It had already been said that she is stronger than a normal woman so, that's a big no from me.As for that, I didn't have any other issues. Alosa was a strong heroine and while she was kind of bad, I loved seeing her interact with her crew, and I wouldn't mind seeing more adventures from them. It was very entertaining! Plus swordfighting, siren magic, and sailing to treasure just tickled my Pirates of the Caribbean loving heart.

Overall, I did enjoy this book, but nowhere near how I felt about the first one, which I absolutely loved. It took me a little bit to get into it and I had a hard time keeping the new names straight of Alosa’s crew members. I’m not sure if there were just too many new ones thrown at you at once or if it was because it had been a few months since I had read the first one. There wasn’t anything especially wrong with the story, so I’m just not exactly sure why this one didn’t grab my attention like the first one did. I missed Alosa’s cunning that she exuded in the first book. The introduction of the siren queen was just lackluster. There was so much build up for her story, but in the end there wasn’t really much story there. I also missed the intrigue and the romantic tension. For some reason, I just didn’t feel that burning connection like I did in the first one. I did feel it a little more towards the end, but that was it. I just kept wondering the whole time: Where is the fierce and witty Alosa from the first book?It was good. It was a fun adventure story, but after preordering it as soon as I finished reading the first one and the anticipation of months waiting, it sadly just did not live up.

Well, that was quite the adventure if I do say so myself. It took me so so long to read this and it really shouldn't have considering these are such fast and fun books. For some reason I really just had an issue getting into it. I felt like it didn't really need a sequel to it, nonetheless, I am glad we got one. It wasn't until I forced myself to sit down and really read it that I got interested in it, even then, I found some parts to just be really dull and disinteresting.Once I got past all of that, I actually did really enjoy it. It's still a fun quick read with some really awesome characters. I also really enjoyed specific things that happened in this book, like getting to delve more into the sirens and finding and learning more about Alosa's mother. I loved the progression of Alosa and Riden's relationship and how they grew to trust each other; though it definitely did bounce back and forth. They would argue and then turn around and make out right away; and this happened throughout almost the whole book, so it was slightly annoying.
