Dr. Park writes in layman’s terms, but the information he reveals is essential to all practicing doctors. If you have ANY medical condition, there is a good chance that it is related or fully caused by SDB, and that your doctor is unaware of SDB or upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS). It does not matter if you had a negative or “normal” sleep study; there is a good chance you have SDB, UARS, or even sleep apnea that is “missed” by the sleep study. This book gives the evolution of sleep disorders in humans, and details how SDB causes numerous medical conditions; it also discusses sensible treatment options. Dr. Park is dedicated to raising awareness of this ubiquitous problem that most doctors never even consider in treating their patients. This book literally saved my life. My dentist said my grinding could indicate sleep apnea. So I Googled sleep apnea to learn about it and came across Dr. Park's book. I watched him on youtube so I bought the book. I saw myself in the book in my 20s and now in my 50s. I've had chronic insomnia all that time. No doctors have ever suggested a sleep study but I insisted on one. Sure enough I have severe sleep apnea. I got a CPAP and I am a new person. Dr. Park, thank you for writing this book so a lay person can understand. Now I know what was wrong with me all those years.

Fantastic book! I wish I could find such a knowledgeable and passionate-about-helping-his-patients doctor like Dr. Park where I live! He completely solved all the health problems I have been experiencing that my own doctors have been overlooking for the last 5 years! All they do here is treat symptoms with an Rx locally, Dr. Park explained why I have been suffering all these years on only 2-3 hours of sleep per night that my doctors have been blowing off. This book helped me know what direction to take, I ended up going around my doctors & doing an at-home sleep study which I now am being treated for my previously undiagnosed sleep apnea and slowly my other medical issues are falling away with finally getting adequate sleep again. I am so incredibly grateful for Dr. Park’s research, case studies, and sharing his knowledge in this easy-to-read book. It has changed my life.

It seems like there is an explosion of people are being treated for sleep apena (OSA for Obstructive Sleep Apnea). Apnea means a short time when a person stops breathing. It is usually measured as a period of at least 10 seconds of not breathing repeated so many times an hour. It seems like many people I know are getting diagnosed with OSA. Dr. Park will sort out the problems of interrupted sleep in a conversational way and after he has reviewed the relevant medical research.OSA was first described in 1960. Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS) was first described in the early 1990's by a doctor at Stanford University. This explains why these conditions seem to be popping up everywhere - not because they were not existent - but because they had not been identified any earlier as a condition. OSA has been around a while longer so sometimes people do not realize that there is a continuum of conditions between good sleep and OSA. UARS lies somewhere in the middle. Dr. Park shows the interrelationships between the results of interrupted sleep and many resultant conditions in only 239 pages including the references and index. In the past, doctors were diagnosing the resultant conditions not realizing their causes. A review of his chapter titles reveals some of the resultant conditions of interrupted sleep: stress, chronic sinusitis and other ear, nose and throat conditions, panic attacks, depression, & anxiety, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep position, weight gain, cold hands, heart disease, some forms of cancer, and so on. This is not surprising as getting oxygen to our body and its organs is a primary thing.Dr. Park, an ear, nose, and throat doctor, speaks in a conversational way, relating things the way he discovered the links himself through experience with his family and his patients. He is very thorough in reviewing relevant research as he goes. The structure of the book is based on a diagram of interrelationships (page 8 and 40) that are caused by interrupted sleep.The book is an eye-opener. If the reader has read any of the reviews here on Amazon on this book, you already know that doctors are recommending the book. I just gave the book to two of my doctors and discussed it with my dentist. My cardiologist told me that he knew it was a good book as many of his patients had talked with him about the book.

I have never slept well, recently got the Sleep Study to identify Sleep Disordered Breathing. I am so excited that finally I may wake up one day and feel refreshed. Dr Park goes through so much of disordered sleeping in this book - It's not just sleep apnea that bedevils us non-sleepers, and Park helps to make some kind of dense of it all.
