First of all, I gotta face it for me and many others one of the most exciting aspects of this series (Aside from the fact that the Avatar Series is just amazing in general) is the development of Korra and Asami's relationship. There's definitely a lot of that here, the reader gets to see how the two compliment each other, and we get to see them fighting for and protecting each other. The ending is inspiring, definitely leaves me wanting more, that's all I will say no spoilers. Also I cannot get enough of the strong women characters in LOK, so badass!! Aside from that my only compliant is that I wish they hade made TW3 longer than the first Turf Wars. In general I wish they would keep delivering these awesome stories faster.

I really enjoyed the Turf Wars trilogy and thought Part 3 did well wrapping things up. I think the overall story flowed naturally from where the end of the animated series left off. Sure, the villain she's up against in the comics doesn't seem quite as apocalyptic as the villains in the animation, but seriously, guys, she's been through a LOT already (even for an Avatar!). I'm glad we get to see her take a well-earned vacation and explore a budding relationship.And the villain in the comic is still dangerous and poses a direct, scary threat that ties directly into this new relationship.Also, not sure what the complaint is about the art? I think the style is a little different, but still detailed and expressive.Oh yeah, LOL to all the "I have nothing against same-sex couples but I really wanted to see *Insert YET ANOTHER Heterosexual Couple Here*" Listen, there are shippers for pretty much any possible couple. Just cause y'all didn't get your ship realized is no reason to complain. Go write/read fanfiction or something.

This was a satisfying end to the comic trilogy, though I would sure like to have more--I don't think I could ever have enough Avatar. The overall plot for this trilogy was rather weak, but I wasn't too bothered by that due to its ability to tell multiple stories in such a limited time. I don't think a single line or panel was wasted. The characters all retained their personalities from the show, making this a nice continuation. The ending stayed true to the spirit of Avatar, providing inspiration to its readers and letting them know that even though the world is full of darkness, it always yields to purifying light.

This entire story had a lot to live up to, not only trying to flesh out the world which for the most part felt lacking, it also had to live up the Promise, the first story of the ATLA graphic novels. It gets points for fleshing out the relationship between Korra and Asasmi (BolinxKorra still my OTP) as well as having Kya give them and us the history of same sex relationships in the series. Points for trying to tie in the gangs but that's ultimately it. Everything here honestly lacks the same drive and desire to not only have an interesting story but to also continue to flesh out the character, most of which felt lacking even on the show. Also, like the show itself, it feels as if there is no real attempt to try to explore any of the idea it presents, outside of the good guy v bad guy idea that worked in ATLA with Ozai but not here with characters that present themselves as more. Also, the art is just so dull, nothing comes up at you or looks interesting.

This is the third and final installment in this first continuation of The Legend of Korra story. I enjoyed the focus on Korra and Asami's blossoming relationship. They're official girlfriends! This arc got all the initial reactions from the main and minor cast out of the way so their story can continue to progress. Overall, it was a great coming out arc.I like that the series gets to continue in a different form, but I feel that some of the depth and time to build the characters is missing in this format. I did like how much diversity is shown in Republic City, though. The politics of the world are so interesting. There's peaceful protests and a presidential election in this part.I give this graphic novel a 4.5/5. I am definitely looking forward to the next story arc. If you are a fan of the tv series and haven't picked up these books yet, I highly recommend that you do.

The ending did feel predictable but I think that's mostly because it had to live up to the massive character arcs and huge, sweeping finales of the TV show. And like others have said there were a few panels where the art was a little more questionable than in previous issues. I still loved it though as a die hard Korrasami fan, and I hope they make more. Hopefully they don't force future issues (if there will be any) to be more "save the world" type plots. I'd imagine that the reader base for these comics skews older than the tv show, so I'd like to see more mature, nuanced plotlines where the stakes can be more personal, and not literally the entire world.

I bit more lackluster than the other two Turf Wars books. Not the high-stakes drama as the other two. Still enjoyed it, because Korra is the best, but also noticed the characters didn't look like the animated ones much. A different style is fine, but at least make their faces look like how they should. It kind of pops you out of the bubble, when they look like someone else. Plus the Korrasami relationship was practically nothing. Not even a kiss. Only two very short moments. Turf Wars 1 was way better in this area.

It was an okay ending to the story, but the artwork took me aback. It was quite poor, and not what I’ve come to expect.

This is the best Dummies book I've bought. The author is a genius. He really explains the concepts very well and clear enough. When someone knows the materials, have plenty of experience teaching them, and happens to have a great sense of humor and is willing to write a book, there you have Mark Ryan. The materials are well organized and topics well chosen with plenty of jokes to enjoy. I recommend to read this book first before you take college calculus, so that you would have clear ideas about what calculus is about, and the important topics and examples. Don't imagine you can read this book can replace college calculus textbook, though. They serve different purposes.

This book is a must buy for students trying to learn Calculus. It presents the ideas in an easy to understand "layman" style. I found myself using this book outside of class to explain things that I didn't quite get during the lecture. Awesome tool that helped me to pass Calculus and much cheaper than the required textbook I had to buy for class.

The author of this book also wrote a companion workbook entitled "Calculus Workbook for Dummies." I highly recommend that if you buy this book, you also purchase the workbook as they go hand-in-hand. Mark Ryan did a very good job of explaining the essentials of calculus. He covers some calculus prerequisites, limits, differentiation, integration, and infinite series. I would recommend that you are comfortable with algebra and trigonometry before purchasing this book.I have provided here a suggestion on which chapters in the theory book to read before doing the workbook problems.1. Read chapters 1 to 6 in the theory book, and then do chapters 1 and 2 in the workbook.2. Read chapter 7 in the theory book, and then do chapter 3 in the workbook.3. Read chapter 8 in the theory book, and then do chapter 4 in the workbook.4. Continue in this fashion for the remainder of the chapters.This book seems best fit for someone who perhaps had calculus in the past but needs to review, or someone who is currently taking a calculus class and need supplemental help. For these tasks, these books are great. Ryan really knows how to explain the fundamentals of the math in a way that is easily understandable, unlike the obtuse theory and proofs you get in the college texts. The workbook provides extra problems, which you need to do if you want to understand the math. I highly recommend both books.

This is an excellent book to learn what you need to know in understanding Calculus. I found that it tells you in clear and simple language just how and why it works and what you need to know to do it. It provides some additional material in Algebra and Trigonometry as a review in learning the subject.I have tired to learn the field using other books on the subject. But I always had trouble with concepts that were just not explained in a fashion that I could understand. The author does an excellent job in over coming this problem.Then the added humor makes the whole learning process more enjoyable at the same time.I would purchase this book again.

The book has been fully reviewed by others, so I'm just here to show my support of the material. If you're brand new to Calculus and have a moderate skill set in Algebra/Trigonometry/Geometry (although there are refresher sections for those as well, but they aren't very lengthy), this is a good place to start in your introduction to the awesome world of Calculus.I'm going to post my reply to another person's review here who felt that the book was too silly:"For anyone looking for a *dryer* approach (and I mean Sahara Desert dry) try Schaum's outlines: "Calculus: Sixth Edition". In my opinion it's *too dry* (my PhD-level engineer-father-in-law bought it for me to help out), but it does go well with the "Dummies" book as a no-nonsense "you're in the subject matter now and can understand a bit deeper" companion. Also, you cannot beat watching KhanAcademy.org for Calculus (or any subject really). I also use WolframAlpha.com and Symbolab.com to monkey around with real problems; both are excellent training tools.I did, however, find Calculus for Dummies extremely helpful as an adult stepping back into the world of mathematics after being out of it for a decade. I'm currently taking Calculus 3 and another Differential Equations course this semester and I still routinely use my "Dummies" book, especially for simple logarithm/exponent/integral/derivative rules."

So far, the material itself has been easy enough to understand and follow along. However, one thing I HATE in textbooks is when it is written "refer to figure x" and figure x is on a page before or after the material you're reading which requires you to flip back and fourth between the pictorial and the information. As a visual learner this is very frustrating. I'm only in chapter 3 and this has already happened about a handful of times.EDIT: As I go on with this text, I've decided to bump the review up a notch because the paper is very nice. It's refreshing to get real paper you can actually highlight on again after getting so many textbooks with glossy paper that really do not like to be written in.

I was getting really stuck on implicit differentiation, but this book made it incredibly clear and easy to conquer. If you're scared of calculus (which you should NOT be), this book will help break down the cold, clinical language of your textbook and help you fully grasp the concepts quickly and easily. Unless you really are an actual dummy.

I used this book and Khan Academy together to learn calculus. It's a great resource. Teaching Calculus in 300 pages seems like it would be difficult, especially now that I understand some of it. The author did a very good job. And Wiley is my new favorite publisher.

I'm a school OT and I got this book to learn about more techniques to use with my students; however, I'm having visual issues trying to read it! I've only gotten to the second section (p. 22) and have run into serious issues comprehending the information because one page will stop at the end of a sentence, but the first line on the next consecutive page starts mid-sentence! Some pages end mid-sentence, but the sentence that starts the following page is another thought or concept. I really hope I can get something out of this book. (I flipped ahead and this problem happens frequently throughout the entire book!) I'm seriously disappointed.

This book was disappointing. I was hoping for more information and treatments I could use in my TBI practice. I found about 3 new ideas that I could take away from this book. However, the biggest disappointment was the poor editing. It was awful to try and read this book! Frequently, a page would end with a period, but the next page would start mid sentence and/or mid activity. I would not recommend this book for that reason alone.

I like how the book has numerous exercises for your eyes that are easy to follow. I had sustained a concussion which affected my vision; the book has fun and creative ways to exercise my eyes.

This was a very basic book with some interesting ideas. My biggest complaint was that the book felt like it was missing sections from one page to the next. I saw more than one instance where a page was started mid-sentence or an activity was described out of the blue. In fact, it happened quite too often to be considered a rare, editing error. If not for all the errors, I would have called this book a nice quick reference book for professionals, or a good "starter" book for those not familiar with visual perceptual processing disorders. Unfortunately, I will not be recommending this book to colleagues or clients because, to be honest, it was frustrating to read at times.

Excellent to stimulate vision, especially children, the theory does not focus directly demonstrates forms of applicability of bodily exercises and methods of visual interest. Great ideas to motivate the patient. I recommend.

Great reference for parents that gives hope and answers - this takes and turns tears and fristration into a plan and understanding. A must have reference.

Not to be confused with “Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom” by Syne Mitchell, which is all about rigid heddle looms, this book deals with frame loom weaving and is EQUALLY TERRIFIC! The books is very well organized and photographed, includes some history, lots of introductory information, detailed descriptions of various techniques, and five beautiful and stylish projects. A very nice addition to my weaving library.

The book has nice examples, and the book itself is well made. I got it first from my library and decided it was worth the purchase. I'm inspired to try new projects!

This book has clear and concise instructions—most with pictures or diagrams. It begins with the tools needed. Next, the author describes the different weaving and edging techniques. Finally, there are five project plans: a wall hanging, a clutch bag, a placemat, a pillow and a larger tote or laptop bag. What is nicer are the explanations of how to plan your own projects from the conceptual drawings to yarn selection to spec sheet creation. The spec sheet includes all the detail about the project allowing it to be replicated later.I love the easy “friend talking about their favorite hobby” feel of the text. The author, by clearly laying out the requirements, makes weaving sound less intimidating than in other instructional books. I especially like the low cash outlay necessary to see if weaving is for you. A reader could do their first small project using only inexpensive yarn, a cardboard loom, a finger skein shuttle, a standard dinner fork, a ruler and scissors. Overall, if you are interested in trying weaving, Weaving on a Little Loom is a great book to jumpstart your success. 4 stars!Thanks to Princeton Architectural Press and NetGalley for an advance copy.

This wasn’t just the typical how-to book, I felt a kinship with Fiona as I turned the pages and immersed myself in her craft of choice.To start something new at any time can be overwhelming but she makes it super easy to get started and the whole point, is to start small.Without having to spend a lot on materials, you can learn how to make your own loom from cardboard, the differences between fibers and don’t worry, she explains each technique in detail!The patterns and tutorials included can get you going quickly and just in time for the holiday season! What friend or family member doesn’t love a handmade gift from the heart?

After a brief history on weaving, you are given tips on choosing a loom or making one yourself out of cardboard. All of the tools you will need (shuttles, sticks, comb, etc.) and materials or fiber you will be using to weave with, you are advised to plan or sketch out your design before setting up your project.A great point is made that the tension of your material could end up being far too tight if you are stressed or trying to hard, so be sure to relax when weaving! Have fun!Many techniques are shown and projects are provided for you to use those techniques, and there is information provided on how to care for your finished items.I don't think I will be trying weaving myself anytime soon, but this is a great guide for anyone who is interested in making something in an art form that is as historic as it is beautiful.Thank you to NetGalley for providing an electronic copy in exchange for an honest review. 3/5 stars.

While I'm not new to weaving, I am new to weaving on the very simple, little looms featured here. Having woven in the past on rigid heddle looms and a larger 4-shaft floor loom, I've always been interested in tapestry weaving techniques. Daly has provided everything one needs to get started weaving, including instruction on making a simple cardboard loom. This makes weaving a more accessible craft for anyone to try out before investing in more expensive tools. Instruction is given too on making a frame loom. This can also be done very cheaply by purchasing a frame from a thrift store or garage sale (look for inexpensive yarn at these places as well!). Daly covers a range of techniques and the projects give the maker an opportunity to practice these techniques. Instructions are clearly written and are accompanied by photographs illustrating each step. Daly's manner is very encouraging for a new weaver. If you've been interested in weaving and want to start with a simple loom, this is a great book to learn all the basic techniques you'll need to create everything from place mats to wall hangings and more.Thank you to Fiona Daly, Princeton Architectural Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book. This book had a lot of great information and is a wonderful reference for someone who is looking to start out weaving. In depth explanations of the fibers used, as well as the history of weaving. Ash is a retelling of the old tale, Cinderella. It definitely takes an entirely different approach at it, forgoing the Prince Charming pathway, and focusing on alluring fairies, brave hunters, and enchanted forests. While this new take worked for me in some ways, it detracted from the story elsewhere.While Ash was a well-defined character, some things she did seemed out of the blue. Some actions were never explained, for her as well as other characters. I never really understood Sidhean, no matter how hard I tried. His motives, his actions, all confused me, and I never got a good feel of who he was or what he wanted. He just seemed to be . . . there.I loved the setting, and the atmosphere made this feel like a forgotten classic tale brought to life. It was easy to read, and didn't drag at any one part, but it wasn't exceptionally gripping, or ultimately great. It was okay.One thing I loved was the `love' aspect of the novel. Ash doesn't fall for some ideal person, or a fantasy. She realizes that that could never make her happy, and even pokes fun at times to those who do that. Instead, she develops a relationship that eventually leads her down that pathway, banishing the instantaneous love attraction found in so many tales.I give Ash 4/5 stars. It's not one of the best books I've read, but it's a good retelling of an old story. It didn't meet my expectations, but it was interesting enough to keep me reading.Share this:

Ash’s mother has died along with her family's traditions of believing in fairy tale stories like they are religion. Ash’s father never did believe in the stories, but Ash holds them dear to her heart. She visits her mother’s grave every night at twilight. Everything is okay until her father brings home a disapproving stepmother and two selfish step-sisters. Ash continues to visit her mother as usual until one night, she saw a fairy. As a great tragedy occurs, she is forced to move to the city and live with her stepmother and step-siblings. She continues to stick to her beliefs. She is made the maid for her step-household after a while. She does this for years before she finally goes out into the woods to find the fairy again. She finds herself in her hometown of Rook Hill again. The fairy now known as Sidhean tells her about the reality of the fairy tales. He takes her back home. Another year passes and the prince has returned from a long war. The kingdom is overwhelmed with joy by this announcement. They hold a ball known as Yule during the winter time. During this she meets Kaisa, the kings huntress, and she begins to be invested with her. They would go riding or hunting most days. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 for the excellent portrayal of a Cinderella story retold in a new refreshing state. This book has surpassed my expectations, making it very enjoyable to read. I recommend this book to a teen/young adult audience, For it offers many important messages one could take away from this. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys fairy tales and books with lots of adventure.In short, It is a fantastic twist on a Cinderella story with more adventure than anyone could ask for and I recommend it to a young adult audience.

I really dragged my feet finishing this book. The author sounds like quite a cool person - she sees the need to give happy endings to a set of people who are all too often denied that in both media and reality. And fantasy and fairy tales are a huge part of my identity. So, in the midst of questioning my sexuality, after a lifetime of reading of princes and princesses locking lips, I badly needed to see what a queer fairy tale looked like. This was the first one I ever picked up. And then I set it down for a month because the first 2/3rds of the book are so very slow. The biggest problem is how little interaction Aisling and Kaisa have for the vast majority of the story. I just didn’t feel much in the way of chemistry between them until near the end. Their budding friendship as the Huntress taught Ash to ride was never elaborated upon - it just sort of happened. The only time they clicked as a couple for me was at the ball, when Kaisa saw Aisling in her enchanted finery for the first time and returned her love at last. It was only at that point that the book had me well and truly enthralled. The ending is beyond worth it. The poetry, the delicateness of the dance, the sense of unstoppable doom as Ash realizes what it is that she’s traded away - and the gorgeous solution to a problem which seemed intractable. If the entire book were like the final third, there would be no problem. It’s definitely a solid first novel and worth reading, if you can make it through the sluggish beginning. My interest is piqued enough to pick up “Huntress” at some point in the near future. I can just barely see the shadow of greatness in the author - and know that she has it in her to do better in the future.

Two significant books about the same miscarriage of justice are set in the same Oklahoma town (Ada) and concern the same scapegoat (Ron Williamson), who was unfairly sent to jail for a local murder. One of those books was AN INNOCENT MAN by John Grisham; the other this one, by Robert Mayer, was first published in 1987. Ada isn't a very large town (population about 16,000 during the time these unfortunate events take place), and even though it boasts a public four-year college, it does not seem to rank very high in jurisprudence. This book is a little more detailed; John Grisham's, unsurprisingly, shows its sympathy more obviously (and was the celebrated author's first nonfiction book). Either -- or both -- are well worth reading. Personally I intend never to set foot inside Ada, Oklahoma, if I can help it.

Truthfully, you could use the search engine of your choice, find this case, see the outcome and think, "Meh."My hope is that young minds, still open and not yet set on a collision course with the belief that heresay is the all-encompassing truth, will be assigned or encouraged to read this. To learn that, in this age of DNA and other amazing scientific advances, assumptions are still, tragically, made.Be encouraged to become voices for the prosecuted when you see them blatantly being silenced or coerced into lying. To be a defense attorney is easy.We need the youth of today to remember things can go wrong SO quickly, they're needed to become the next generation to fight for justice.And we need to remember to pray for the many families who were wronged. Beginning with Denice's and continuing through those charged in error.This dark side of our justice system MUST be stopped. The truth mustn't be silenced.

I have read this book at least twice since 1990, and have lent it out both times and didn't get it back. It is the best true crime book that I have ever read for several reasons. The story has haunted me ever since, because I am convinced that these 2 men, who remain in prison today, were falsely convicted. I've read hundreds, and likely more, of true crime books over the years, and none has stuck with me like this story. The corruption in Ada, Oklahoma is the worst that I have read about, and it's been going on for decades. John Grisham wrote a book about 2 other men who were falsely accused of another crime in the same town, and this case was mentioned in that book. I had hoped that book would bring some help to this case, but nothing. I am not connected to the town or the case in any way, but it's been on my conscience because it is so wrong. The writer is so good at detailing the corruption on every level, and anyone can see how this happened to 2 young men without legal representation and no money. It's almost 40 years now that they've been locked up. Despicable.

If you wish to be infuriated by how police work in many venues of this country, it will drive you to distraction. These boys were clearly railroaded into making false confessions. Now, a thinking person will wonder if they were much more clever than given credit for and planned to lead the police on a merry hunt for allegedly abducting a female clerk from and fast food market or are they really not guilty. The trial of these boys is a mere sham and one wonders what kind of judges we have sitting on our benches. Nonetheless, 2 young males get a ridiculous jail and death sentence without one solid shred of evidence that the girl is even dead. I loved this book for its many challenges to my overworked brain. With DNA today, I doubt this would have been brought to trial in the first place. Worthwhile reading for all who seek justice in this world.

At times it was difficult for me tho read this story because it goes so deep into describing the small town life of Ada. Everyone it's connected to some degree for various reasons. Which sometimes made the story complicated. That being said, this is an unbelievable, frustrating and actually frightening true story. Innocent people being convicted under the hands of law enforcement officials that bend protocol and operate without ethics or integrity. Power and control is the district attorney's concern, so much so it over shadows the death of the victim.

This is an incredible story how two men were railroaded into a falsely guilty verdict because of bad police work and a lazy district attorney with a huge ego. Very sad how two men's lives can be ruined without any real proof, only on what others say. I certainly hope that Ada, Oklahoma has cleaned up its act! They still don't have the real killer! There wasn't any DNA to save for future testing when it became available. I personally think it may have been the guy in the second book who was ultimately found guilty of that murder. That's just my opinion.

A true story showing the depravity of some people pretending to work for law and order. At times infuriating, always informative, this could be a story about anyone just as easily as it was the two about which this book was written. The sloppy investigation by police and dealings of prosecution was second only to the willingness of a jury to believe a "confession" which was in fact a dream. With absolutely no evidence other than this "confession" and in fact the details were proven to be completely false, two men are still sitting in prison. The jury was asked to accept a confession in which every detail was proven to be a lie but accept the confession of murder anyway. A true story of how broken our system of justice is and why so many have been able to prove their innocence over the past few decades. Had there been any biological evidence, I have no doubt these two men would be added to the growing list of exonerated individuals.
